Arthritis

Arthritis, specifically rheumatoid arthritis, is an autoimmune disease that can cause painful swelling and damage to the joints around your body, including your feet. As rheumatoid arthritis is usually managed with medication, when ‘flares’ in the joints do occur, it’s good to have strategies in place to help manage the pain.

Your Podiatrist can help you with the right shoes that will accommodate the swelling that rheumatoid arthritis causes, instead of keeping your feet painfully restricted in tight shoes. They can also design custom orthotics using soft, cushioned materials that will help offload pressure from the painful, swollen joints. While this may not relieve your pain completely, it can reduce your pain and improve your comfort and movement capacity during a very uncomfortable time.
