Gout

Gout is a type of inflammatory arthritis that results from a high concentration of uric acid in the blood. This leads to the formation of ‘crystals’ that settle in the joints - most often the big toe joint in the foot. Enduring a gout attack be extremely painful and debilitating.

While your GP can provide you with preventative medication, your Podiatrist can help equip you with management strategies to help reduce the risk of a gout attack starting and manage your gout attack when it presents. This can include wearing warm socks, keeping your feet warm, exercise, being mindful of stress and obesity, and helping you manage diabetes. They can also recommend the best footwear for your foot type and prescribe custom orthotics to help you feel more comfortable on your feet.
